Formula 1

Friday 12th Mar 2010

Formula 1

On the 14th of March the 2010 Formula 1 season will kick off in Bahrain.

Well it actually kicked off at 7am this morning with the Friday Practice 1, with the second practice starting in about an hours time. Though the main event will start with Qualifying tomorrow at 11am, Then the race on Sunday will kick off the GP season at 12 lunch time (so try and arrange that mothers day lunch to start at 2:30ish).

This season should be pretty good, there are more teams this year and there has been some moving around.

Brawn GP is no more, they have been brought by Mercedes GP and have decided to become a German team with German drivers, though they have one of the best German drivers in the business, Michael Schumacher is back and driving for them.

Jenson Button, who wont last years Drivers Championship in a Brawn car has moved to McLaren and will have the 2008 Drivers Champion, Lewis Hamilton as a team mate.

There has also been some rule changes for this year, the main one being there is no more refuelling during the race. This is going to have quite an impact on strategies, as drivers will no longer have to worry about fuel when a safety car comes out etc... though with carrying all the excess fuel, they tire wear will be a lot greater, so teams and drivers will have to keep a closer eye on there tyre degradation.

As usual you will be able to keep an eye on the live timings from the official Formula 1 website. All the races will be shown live on the BBC, so lets get ready for another immense season of racing.

Pi Day

Thursday 11th Mar 2010

Pi Day

On the 14th of March is of officially Pi Day, Pi is a mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any circle's circumference to its diameter.

We Celebrate Pi Day on the 14th of March as the date in the American format is 3.14, which are the first 3 digits of Pi, which is enough for most people. You could get precise and celebrate at 1:59 on the 14th of March, which would then be the first 6 digits of Pi.

So this Sunday the 14th of March, Take a Pie to your Moms house, and celebrate Pi day, with a Pie, on Mothers Day, not forgetting to take your copy of the Italian Job to watch after.

To learn more about Pi Day, check out the Pi Day website piday.org

Sir Michael Caine’s Birthday

Wednesday 10th Mar 2010

Sir Michael Caine’s Birthday

On the 14th of March 1933 Sir Michael Caine was born in South East London, he got his first acting roll as a bit part in 1950 in a film called Morning Departure.

His first big film was Zulu, which was closely followed by Alfie. Though his best film (as far as im concerned anyway) was done in 1969, The Italian Job. This film is a classic, great acting with a fantastic story, all shot really well... and the ending! what an ending!I wont spoil it encase anyone hasn't seen it, though if you haven't seen it, I recommend you watch it. Infact, if you order if off Play today, you will probably get it by the weekend, so you can celebrate his birthday in style by watching, what I consider to be, his best Movie.

Of course, he was done many other great Movies since then, and even Produced a few, he acted and produced Get Carter. He also played a fantastic Mr Scrooge along side the Muppet's in The Muppet's Christmas Carol

As well as the ones I have mentioned, he has started in over 100 other Movies, and been nominated for an Oscar in every decade since 1960 (the only other actor to have done that is Jack Nicholson, and in the year 2000 he was honoured by the queen for his work and knighted Sir Michael Caine.

So on Sunday, raise a glass to the great actor that is, Sir Michael Caine.
